Augmented Reality (AR) is a term for the perception of the physical real-world environment which is augmented by virtual computer-generated imagery. Examples of these are text, graphics or animations.
In mobile Applications AR is implemented as follows: The smartphone touchscreen shows the image that the camera is taking. Via GPS and compass it can locate the person and download information about the place. The app inserts this information to the picture.
Up until now, Augmented Reality was used more for computer games. With the use of mobile internet and the corresponding software the real-world environment like streets or buildings can be augmented in real-time.
